For the 4th weekend this year our Cadets and hardworking staff were out on expeditions for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. Our expedition began on Sunday morning when we dropped one group at the Tissington Trail in Ashbourne, we then dropped the second group at Ilam. Our staff then walked along the route at various points to supervise the groups remotely as they completed their expeditions. The routes on day 1 were both approximately 20km, which in hot weather, with a large rucksack made it a tough day! Our groups rolled into camp at Hartington by 1800hrs, and after pitching tents/eating food they got an early night ready for day 2. At 0800hrs our first group left camp, the groups were moving from camp in Hartington, to finish at Tittesworth Reservoir. About half the way into the day the staff received a help request via the Staffordshire Wing SPOT tracking system, our staff moved immediately to the co-ordinates provided, and within 10minutes our staff were on site with the group. As it turned out one of the groups members had hurt her ankle, she was assisted to the minibus and sadly had to withdraw from the expedition. Both groups finished by 1800hrs, after a long second day in the hot weather they were incredibly tired. Both groups did incredibly well and have now passed their assessments, meaning on 05 July they will have completed their DofE Bronze.
